About Beat It...

“From the very first time I saw a DJ, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. The DJ just seemed to have total control over the crowd and to see everyone moving in unison like that was just awe inspiring. It really was the ultimate escape.”

Evolving his passion into a self confessed obsession, Beat It began playing in nightclubs across the ACT in 2007. Nowadays he is a very much in demand DJ and plays consistently across many diverse club nights in Canberra and its surrounds. Beat It’s sets are truly a unique experience and certainly not for the feint hearted.

“Basically I strive to play quality, non-disposable music. Subbed out bass, techno driven beats and melodic synths are all definitely my bag. I like to think of myself as a variation on the classic journey DJ, every song has meaning towards the next. I’ve always tried to do something a little different. For me if you walk into a club and every DJ is banging out the same tunes every set… i just don’t get it… you may as well put a jukebox on.”

He must be doing something right because in the last 18 months alone he has played support for over 40 prominent acts including internationals Kid Cudi, Bart B More, Busy P, Bloody Beetroots, Stupid Fresh, Jack Beats and Mowgli, as well as national giants such as TyDi, Ajax and The Aston Shuffle to name just a few. He has also been responsible for helping to run the über popular Exposed nights at Transit Bar and has scored a residency with Pang!, Canberra’s #1 club night which has seen him both support some industry giants, and go from strength to strength.

“I always look for some sort of continuity in my sets though. I love finding the groove in the club and just seeing how far I can push the boundaries.”

And push boundaries he does. In any given set his range of tunes seems to stretch across the slot seamlessly, often beginning with uplifting house and ending up somewhere in banging Technoville. His trance sets are not to be missed either. Classic hard trance anthems mashed with more driving techier stuff can be found here. The sets have proven so popular that he landed a set at the Transmission Warm Up Party earlier this year.

“I was so stoked when I got the call up. Playing supports for some of my original heroes was a real honour.”
In ‘09’, Beat It’s sets have really started to drift away from the status quo of electro. Banging techno with trancey undertones is the flavour and it looks like it will be staying this way for a while.

“I just love this stuff. Any sort of tune that can stay driving, a little dark, but remain uplifting is an absolute winner. There’s simply nothing better than getting a crowd into a groove and building them up until they lose their shit! Very satisfying!”

As you have probably already concluded, the rest of ‘09’ looks very promising for this rising superstar.
