Five copies of the Battle of Britain on DVD:

As Winston Churchill said, “Never was so much owed by so many to so few.” To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, a defining moment of World War II, the much-loved British actor Sir David Jason presents this documentary account of that pivotal moment in the Second World War. In this uplifting programme, he recounts the astonishing story of the small band of heroic pilots who fought and won what was arguably the most crucial battle of the whole war. David Jason is on a journey in the landscape over which the battle was fought. He goes to find the people and places that made that victory possible. He will meet the last of the 'few' and some of the 'many', the unsung heroes who also played a vital role in winning the Battle of Britain. Finally he will get rare opportunity to fly in a legendary Spitfire and scramble in the footsteps of fighter aces of the past. We have five copies to give away thanks to Shock. To win, email allan@bmamag.com and tell us the most heroic WWII story you ever heard.

Eight copies of Spicks and Specks – The Finale on DVD:

When historians look back on this decade they will wonder where it all went wrong. iPhones? Cheap milk? iPads? Annoyingly capitalised P’s? Who knows. One thing they will be able to figure out though is how 150 people spent their evenings one night, centuries ago, because it was recorded. ON FILM! Adam, Alan and Myf invited a cast of more than 20 special guests to celebrate with a raft of their favourite games in a grand final of epic proportions. Guests include Geoffrey Rush, Ella Hooper, Dave O'Neill, Darren Hayes, Rhonda Burchmore, Brian Cadd, Jimeoin, Shane Bourne… The list goes on.

Thanks to Roadshow Entertainment we have eight copies on DVD to give away if you can tell us who the lead singer of the Uncanny X-Men was. It’s that simple, folks. And no – you may not phone a friend. Wait, wrong show. As you were.

Five copies of Bunraku on DVD:

Bankura is a city and a municipality in Bankura District in the state of West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of the Bankura District. In the 2011 census it had a population of 138,036 out of which 70,734 were males and 67,302 were females.

Wait – wait –wait. I’ve got this all mixed up.

Bunraku is the name commonly used for ningyo-joruri, literally puppets and storytelling. It is also a film set in a dystopian metropolis under a tyrannical regime, two vengeful strangers (Josh Hartnett, Gackt…yes GACKT!) who join forces with a volatile bartender (Woody Harrelson) in a plot to overthrow an evil dictator (Ron Perlman). In a battle for supremacy over the city, only one side can be victorious. In the style of Sin City and from the makers of WatchmenMinority Report and Fight Club, this visually stunning flick features a stellar cast and non-stop action sequences. Thanks to Icon, we have five DVD copies to giveaway if you can tell us which animal Ron Perlman most resembles.

Five copies of electronic label Paper Chain's Album Sampler on CD:

Paper Chain Sampler Vol. 1 is the first compilation release from the Paper Chain label.

After much debate as to whether or not a compilation CD would be developed, Paper Chain thought ‘bugger it, why not?’. After all, their birthday was on the horizon, and what better gift to share with the people that have followed them since inception in 2008? With a release scheduled on their birthday in 2011 the sampler serves as a taste tester of old and newer artists on the roster and showcases the talents that the label gave a open palette to in order to interpret and develop their sound.

The Sampler kicks off with one of Paper Chain’s hardest working producers, Ta-ku. Cosmo Gets comes in with the heavy hitting ARK 280, comprising of production wonder kid Shazam AKA Cameron Parkin and rhythm section skin hitter Sam Kuzich. The duo have continued to wow audiences with their journey through cosmic funk.

James Ireland’s lush sounds on Eggrolls calms down the vibes and sets it up nicely for Virginia-based rapper/vocalist Bobby Blunt to lend some vocals to the collection. Naik’s live shows have made jaws drop around Australia with his on point drummer and crafty live instrumentation with sample-based music – Battle of Actium is a great example of how versatile this producer can be.

Diger Rokwell’s Omaha is one of the disc’s highlights, providing a bubbling synth symphony that should send listener’s thoughts skywards. Being an artist, producer and also one of the main forces behind The Community his track shows how much something can boom-bap. After release For What It Worth with Paper Chain in early 2011 Raashan Ahmad strips it back and keeps it raw with Take It Slow, featuring the beautiful vocals of Sarsha Simone.

Thinnen came to people’s attention after winning the bounce remix comp with Paper Chain; since then he has gone from strength to strength and developed his own mellow sounds within the dubstep/electronic scene.

WattHZ boss Ylem steps away from his tight dubstep production to give us a hit of some sub heavy volume and washed out vibes. Lowaski started out as the live drummer for Naik but since then has put down the sticks and picked up recording devices to produce some of the most out-of-the-world music heard to date. An album is set to drop later in the year Paper Chain. Kit Pop steps up with Carni; a synth driven grimey beat track that keeps the heads in check. His first EP Smoke Cloud comes out in November.

Melbourne’s Dyl Thomas (one half of Polo Club) joins Paper Chain as their first digital crooner. His 808 beats and soft vocals show another side to this many faceted artist. And Rekab, WA’s number one dubstep DJ 2 years running, dishes out a percussion based number called Girls All Around, proving he’s not only a well rounded DJ, but a solid producer too.

There’s plenty of dirt to enjoy on the collection, and you can find out first hand as BMA Magazine has five copies to give away to lovers of all things electronic. To win, write to allan@bmamag.com and tell us your greatest musical discovery of the past year. For more info on Paper Chain, head to www.paperchainpeople.com .
